Following on from last week’s podcast on the TSX Venture 50 list of companies, this week we caught up with Steve Palmer, President and CEO of AlphaNorth Asset Management to further analyse the state of play in the Canadian small caps market.
Those who made it to our Beyond the Channel event in London in November will have had the opportunity to catch Steve on our small caps fund management panel. Steve is well known in Canada as a stock picker and commentator on the state of the market. We had the opportunity to chat to him about sectors he likes and the prospects for Canadian equities in 2024.
Founded in Toronto in 2007, AlphaNorth invests in small cap companies that many others overlook, but could change the world. Example sectors include healthcare, environmental sustainability and some lifestyle industries. In Canada AlphaNorth’s fund follows a long-based strategy, but with the scope to take some short positions. The firm combines technical analysis with both a bottom-up and top-down strategy.
