So we're into August now, and as ever in August, there are a lot of people away from their trading desks. This in turn leads to thinner trading volumes in the market, and inevitably more volatility. Significant market movements end up looking even more important.
Thus it comes as no surprise to wake up to hysterical headlines this morning as Asian markets sold off during Monday trading sessions, after a bad session on Wall Street on Friday. For traders, conditions like these can deliver some interesting short side opportunities, if you are one of the unlucky ones not sitting on a beach right now.
Our short term trading portfolio is designed to take advantage of investment trends which will play out within six months. Anything that looks longer term than that goes into a different trade bucket. We could be in for a rough ride in the markets over the next few weeks, but it could pay to put on some trades that will benefit.
